You remember the dirt berm. You remember the range commands. And you definitely remember Ivan.
The early formation. The smell of gun oil. Dust on your elbows. Somewhere downrange, that familiar green silhouette was about to pop up—and somebody was already blaming their sights.
Some memories don’t need an explanation. Just a refill.
The OEH Green Ivan Veteran Coffee Mug brings that familiar qualification-range scene back to your morning routine. A weathered green target rises behind a dirt mound, flanked by the bold statement:
PATRIOTS GET FREEDOM. COMMIES GET LEAD.
Finished with Operation Engraved Honor dog tag artwork, this design combines old-school range humor, Cold War-inspired styling, and pride in having answered the call.
The target you remember
“Green Ivan” is a familiar name for the molded, human-shaped targets used in military live-fire training. Official military coverage documents their use in Marine Corps exercises and Army M4 qualification events—a training tradition connecting service members across different years and branches.
This design draws on a veteran’s memory of the red-star version seen on infantry ranges in the 1990s. The faded olive finish, worn lettering, and low dirt berm capture that familiar view from the firing line.
Maybe it takes you back to basic. Maybe it brings to mind annual qualification, your favorite range buddy, or the target that absolutely, positively should have gone down.
The uniform comes off. The commitment stays.
The world changes. The value of readiness, the bonds built through service, and the responsibility of protecting freedom endure.
This mug honors that lasting commitment—with the kind of blunt humor that makes another veteran look over, grin, and say, “I remember those.”
Remember Ivan? He’s Still Downrange.
That familiar green silhouette connects your range-day memories with the service members training today. See Green Ivan targets during the 2024 Army Best Squad Competition, or revisit Marines conducting live-fire training with Green Ivan targets.
